Site promotion has always been my
specialty and the thing I love most about creating websites. Many things have changed over the years when Yahoo, Dateable and one other search engine were the only ones online. For many years keywords in your webpages, and the title, description and keyword "meta tags" of webpages determined how well the pages ranked in the search engines, but this is not always the case anymore. Complicated scripts which flood the search engines and directories with useless "doorway pages" and "gateway pages" have ended the free traffic ride that many of us "keyword and meta tag optimizing adepts" used in the past to get websites and pages to rank heads and shoulders above other "average" websites. At present, it's wise to take a more conservative approach to keyword and meta tag creation for your
webpages and to rely more on putting actual content into your pages. It's still a good idea to have meta tags, and there are many free tools to assess your meta tags which I'll list in the Free Site Stuff section of
this site as soon as possible. I am also happy to do this for free if you contact me. Getting listed in search engines is important, however, and most search engines will spider your website and find you, without your ever having to submit to them but this can
take a long time. I highly recommend that you first make sure your website homepage is in order and then to add your site by hand, for free, to dmoz.org. It's the most important place to list your website on the
internet and I'll write more about that shortly... Once your webpage content is done, I can submit your site to a few hundred search engines and directories for a minimal charge using SubmitWolf software. This
usually involves my looking at your site and suggesting some changes, and once the site is "good to go", I submit it. It takes about 40 minutes to submit a site and it's easy to send you a complete report which
you can use to keep track of which engines and directories your site has been submitted to. For everyone's own good (so as not to be disqualified as a spammer by any search engine or directory) I will only submit a
website for anyone 1(ONE) time. Then it's up to you to submit to the non-submitted search engines and directories by hand.
Hand submission, if done to enough directories and search engines can bring
your site traffic reaching into the millions of page views.....and especially
important is for you to submit to directories that deal with the same website
category that your site is about. If you are rich enough to hire someone to list your site to directories by hand, I can do this for about $15/hour, but
it's something that you should do yourself unless your business has an advertising budget. The SubmitWolf report I send you lists most of the search engines and directories on the internet (a great resource in
itself) and also a link to the submit your site page at each search engine and directory which will save you hours of time and searching on your own.
If you'd like to talk more about submitting your website, feel free to contact me. There are a number of other ways to promote a website such as Press Releases that I'll cover in more depth as I build this site. |
