Making money is a normal part of owning a popular website, no matter what category it be in.My policy is that our websites should make
enough money to support their hosting and domain costs, and then just a bit more to provide a cushion to carry us through the low months. ("Grape Growing" is after all seasonal unless we have enough of a following
from "down under", and we don't at the moment)
Our second policy is not to hinder our visitors in any way from getting to the content they want to find at our site, so you can forget about any clever advertising,
pop-up windows, forced re-directs or any other rubbish at any site that Grape Grower Solutions owns or that I own privately. I love the internet but detest sales pitches and deception! I will also never help
anyone to place such advertisements on any website no matter how much money I'm offered.
GoogleAdsense is a good way to earn a reasonable amount of money to support a site because Google has been pretty good until now
to screen most of their ads, so you usually get to a respectable site when you click on a Google AdSense network advertisement.
Private affiliate networks such as Commission Junction might have other
advertisers willing to pay for placement ads on your website as well. The trick here is to find advertisers that provide products that your audience is interested in. Personally, I detest seeing a "high
school reunion" advertisement on a grape growing website, but that's just me...
Other more complex advertisements can be used on websites these days such as .xml feeds but I won't delve into these unless anyone has a
need to utilize them at a website.
Did you know that everytime you click on a listing in search results from Yahoo or Google that someone is earning money?...even if it's not a "sponsored link"?....Yup! It's the
truth, and one of the reasons they can earn enough money to buy out anyone that comes in direct competition to any of their projects. (Not trying to be cynical here at all, because this is the land of opportunity,
but sometimes you have the option to take the advertising revenue away from the major players and put it into your own pocket or into the pocket of your website visitors, so that's why I mention it here)
