Potassium
Here is a Cabernet Sauvignon vine at veraison. The "burned" leaf edges when first observed might be cause for alarm. But
these are telling us there is an excess of fixed potassium in the soil. The symptoms for insufficient potassium and excess potassium are the same reddish burned leaf edges. A plant
tissue test is the best way to diagnose a high or low potassium problem. The leaf petiole sample for the test should be taken from the vines showing these symptoms one to two weeks before harvest. Do not
routinely add potassium to your vineyard without knowing how much you already have in the soil.
